The Venomous Abyss Loot Table — Complete Overview for WoW Midnight Season 2

The Venomous Abyss is the Season 2 raid, sitting inside the Vaults of Atal'Utek beneath the Coiled Isle. Eight bosses, ending with Ula'tek — an ancient Amani weapon sealed away for over 16,000 years until Zul'jan, guided by Hex Lord Malacrass, broke her prison.

This guide covers the loot: which bosses drop which tier tokens, item levels by difficulty, the trinkets worth chasing, the mounts, and how to plan your raid week around what you actually need.

Quick Reference — What Drops Where

The five tier bosses are 2 through 6. Ula'tek drops a class-neutral Curio you turn in for whichever slot you're still missing — which makes the final boss valuable even after you've collected four set pieces.

Item Levels by Difficulty

Loot scales in four flat tiers rather than climbing incrementally boss by boss:

The tier structure:

• Nek'zali sits alone at the bottom tier

• Entombed Sentinels and The Lost Explorers share the second tier

• Vashnik, Sszorak, and The Twin Fangs share the third

• The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek cap the top tier

Mythic gear is upgradeable to 335, with special upgrades reaching 344 on the final two bosses.

One thing players consistently get wrong: direct boss drops and Great Vault rewards use different rules. A Heroic boss drops Hero-track gear directly, but a qualifying Heroic raid slot in your Great Vault starts on the Myth track. This means clearing Heroic every week is more valuable than the direct drops alone suggest — the Vault slot is where the real upgrade lives.

Raid Finder requirement: you need an average item level of 273 to queue for the first Raid Finder wing.

Tier Sets — Venom Idols

Every class receives a five-piece set from the Venomous Abyss, each in four seasonal colour variants tied to difficulty (LFR, Normal, Heroic, Mythic).

Tier tokens are called Venom Idols and split by armor type as usual:

Farming order for your set: target the five tier bosses (2–6) as your priority every reset. The Curio from Ula'tek fills whichever slot RNG hasn't given you — hand it in to Kirana outside the Silvermoon Catalyst.

Catalyst note: the Midnight Catalyst converts eligible non-tier gear into tier pieces. If you're clearing Heroic for vault slots but not committing to a full raid schedule, Catalyst charges are how you complete your set without depending on token RNG.

Trinkets — 13 Confirmed Drops

The raid contains 13 confirmed trinkets across the eight bosses. Trinkets are historically the single most impactful loot category in any tier — a well-tuned raid trinket can outperform two full item level upgrades in other slots.

Priority approach: before your first clear, check current sim data for your spec. Trinket value varies dramatically by specialization and the same trinket can be BiS for one spec and a vendor item for another. Don't burn bonus rolls on trinkets before you know which ones your spec actually wants.

Bonus roll targets: the final two bosses (Coiled Altar, Ula'tek) drop the highest item level trinkets in the raid. If you're saving bonus rolls, these are the encounters to spend them on.

Very Rare and Special Effect Weapons

Maze-roa, Warlord's Fury — Very Rare drop from The Coiled Altar. Low drop rate, high demand. This is the raid's chase weapon.

Cantrip weapons — The Coiled Altar drops two cantrip weapons with special on-use effects on top of its standard loot table. Worth prioritising if your spec benefits from the effect.

Venomcursed armor — four Venomcursed armor pieces exist in the raid's loot pool with unique visual effects and stat profiles distinct from standard drops.

Ascendant Venomstones — Season 2 introduces these as socketable upgrades for weapons, trinkets, and necklaces. Plan your gem strategy around them once they become available.

Mounts

The Primeval Skyfriend is a Mythic-only drop and will remain one of the season's rarest mounts. The Crimson Venomfang comes from the meta-achievement, which is achievable on any difficulty — a realistic target for groups that clear Normal or Heroic consistently and are willing to work through the achievement criteria.

Housing Trophies

New to Season 2: the raid drops housing trophies based on Ula'tek difficulty — Argent, Gleaming, and Aureate variants. Each boss also drops decorative housing items:

• Hexed Tomb Brazier — Entombed Sentinels

• Lost Explorers' Mailbox — The Lost Explorers

• Vessel of the Howling Ossuary — Sszorak

Mistcrests from Raid Bosses

Every kill drops Mistcrests — the Season 2 upgrade currency replacing Dawncrests. The crest type is tied to the difficulty you cleared:

• Raid Finder → Veteran Mistcrest

• Normal → Champion Mistcrest

• Heroic → Hero Mistcrest

• Mythic → Myth Mistcrest

Weekly cap: 100 Mistcrests. Unlike late Season 1 where Dawncrests were uncapped, Season 2 restores a ceiling. Plan your upgrades around it — you cannot bank a weekend of farming into a single gear push.

Raid Route and Wing Structure

The raid isn't fully linear. After Nek'zali, it splits into two branches:

Branch A: Entombed Sentinels → Vashnik the Malignant Branch B: The Lost Explorers → Sszorak

Both branches must be cleared before you can progress. After that, the raid continues through The Twin Fangs → The Coiled Altar → Ula'tek.

Loot is identical regardless of which branch you clear first — the order doesn't affect drops, so there's no strategic reason to argue about it in raid chat.

Loot Priority — What to Chase First

Week 1 (Normal/Heroic):

1. Any tier token — set bonuses are the largest single power gain available. Two-piece is meaningful; four-piece often changes rotation priority.

2. Weapon upgrades — highest item level impact per slot

3. Trinkets — check sim data first; don't take a trinket over a weapon if your spec doesn't value it

Weeks 2–4:

1. Complete four-piece set bonus — use the Ula'tek Curio to fill your missing slot

2. Target trinkets from Coiled Altar and Ula'tek — highest item level in the raid

3. Bonus rolls on final two bosses only — the item level tier gap makes these the best value

Ongoing:

• Heroic clear every week for the Myth-track Great Vault slot — this is the highest-value repeatable activity in the raid regardless of whether you need the direct drops

• Track your Mistcrest weekly cap and spend it on your highest-track gear first

Boss-by-Boss Loot Notes

Nek'zali the Soulcoiler — Opening boss, lowest item level tier. Armor, weapons, and off-hands. No tier token, but a reliable source of early upgrades in week one when everything is an upgrade.

Entombed Sentinels — Hands token. Two corrupted golems. First tier boss and one of the more forgiving encounters — the earliest realistic tier piece for most groups.

The Lost Explorers — Shoulders token. A trio of possessed tortollan led by Mor'zahi. Shares the second item level tier with Entombed Sentinels.

Vashnik the Malignant — Chest token. Alchemist distilling Ula'tek's venoms in the Chamber of Virulence. Third item level tier — a step up from bosses 2–3.

Sszorak — Legs token. Venom-warped beast. Same item level tier as Vashnik and Twin Fangs.

The Twin Fangs — Helm token. Vexhul and Ithraz, two-target cleave encounter built around Eternal Venom stacks. Always the sixth fight regardless of which branch you cleared first.

The Coiled Altar — Zul'jan, still possessed by Malacrass. Top item level tier. Drops the Maze-roa Very Rare weapon, two cantrip weapons, and the Hex Lord's Visage and Gaze housing trophies. Multi-stage encounter with the most overlapping mechanics in the raid outside the final boss.

Ula'tek — Universal tier Curio. Final boss, top item level tier, up to 344 on Mythic. Drops the Primeval Skyfriend mount on Mythic difficulty only. Three-stage encounter with egg management, add waves, and a shrinking platform in the final phase.
